The Rankin Family performs Mairi’s Wedding
Filed under: wedding fiddle music

A performance of “Mairi’s Wedding” from “Anne Murray in Nova Scotia”, 1993. Filmed on the wharf at Neil’s Harbour, Cape Breton. includes “Michael Rankin’s Reel”. Love the stepdancing!

“Mairi’s Wedding” (or the “Lewis Bridal Song”) is a well-known Scottish song. The lyrics are as follows:

Chorus
Step we gaily on we go
Heel for heel and toe for toe
Arm in arm and row on row
All for Mairi’ s wedding

1. Over hill-ways up and down
Myrtle green and bracken brown
Past the shielings through the town
All for the sake of Mairi

Chorus

2. Plenty herring plenty meal
Plenty peat tae fill her creel
Plenty bonny bairns as weel
That’s the toast for Mairi

Chorus

3. Red her cheeks as rowans are
Bright her eye as any star
Mairi’s got them all by far
That’s my darlin’ Mairi

Chorus

1. Over hill-ways up and down
Myrtle green and bracken brown
Past the sheiling through the town
All for sake of Mairi

Repeat Chorus
Repeat Verse #2
Repeat Chorus x2

Arm in arm and row on row
All for Mairi’ s wedding
