Certainly in the Baroque, and especially with Baroque dance suites, the repeats seemed more a requirement of the form rather than making a statement about the meaning of the music. Wow, great performance! I appreciate the fast tempo, as I think that is what Beethoven was looking for. Although this piece was written before the invention of the metronome, and thus does not have a tempo marking indicated, one can clearly see from Beethoven’s other works that he wanted faster tempos than the tempos at which modern performers often perform his pieces.
