My grandad once mentioned that there is some sort of huge classical music concert held in Vienna on Christmas Day or around christmastime each year. He said he would someday love to go so i was thinking of taking him. However, I have searched on google and other search engines but found nothing. Does anyone know of something like this? And if so where can i find info and/or get tickets for the concert? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, "del_icious" is most correct. It’s the "New Years" gala.
The local PBS station aways carry it. And has been for the past several years hosted by retired news anchorman, Walter Cronkite.
It’s an all "pop" concert, and if you love the music of Johann Strauss Jr., you’ll love the program; the audience quite often will participate by "clapping" their hands in rhythm with the orchestra: lots of fun.

No, but there is one in Nuernberg on Christmas Day. The big concert in Wien is on New Year’s Day, and usually consists of music by the Strauss family, which culminates in three encores (1 chosen by the conductor, the "An der schoener Blauen Donau" waltzes, and the Radetzky Marsch). One can see this every year on Public Television.
