I need to prepare a CD with classical music that general people will enjoy.

bach, mozart, Vivaldi Beethoven ???

What do I add to it?? Please list some common classical concerts. Doesn’t matter if it’s an opera, or violin or piano.

All the best classical composers lived hundreds of years in the past. Today the perception about people who listen to classical music is that they are somehow smarter and that they have a more refined taste than others, I do not think this is true. In my opinion today classical music is mostly for the rich, there are lots of people who go to classical concerts just to be seen there so they appear to be smart and educated. There is very little fun evolved in classical music, most of it is too serious. What are your thoughts?

The "Tribute" album from Ozzy Osbourne is a live album. The first song of the concert opens with a great classical music song (the first few seconds of track 1 in the CD). I am trying to find our what it is. thank you!

Ah, yes! lol, that is quite a popular piece of music.

It is called "O Fortuna" by Carl Orff. What you heard was the good stuff a few minutes into the piece. O Fortuna is a part of Orff’s "scenic cantata" (what ever that means) called Carmina Burana.

Where to hear classical music (esp. Early Music) and Opera in Europe in the summer of 2009?

I’m traveling to Europe, having extended stays in Norway and France, and visiting Italy (late june, early july), germany, switzerland, and Austria. I want to get to as many concerts as possible while I’m there, especially in Italy. I especially want to find Baroque music, but Classical, Romantic, and renaissance/medieval are also loved. Any suggestions or advice would be wonderful! Thanks!

from July 2-4 in Vienna. Or you can try to catch:

- Munich Opera Festival (28 June – end of July) [ http://www.bayerische.staatsoper.de/731-c2hvd19tb250aD0wNiZzaG93X3llYXI9MjAwOQ-~spielplan~kalender_2008.html ]. I’m afraid they’re doing mostly stuff from the Romantic Period this year, but if you can manage to get a ticket to the Lucrezia Borgia (July 1, 6), that is the show to catch since Edita Gruberova is perhaps the greatest coloratura soprano since Sutherland and she will be retiring in 2012.

- Zurich Opera has full schedule for June and Julyl [ http://www.opernhaus.ch/d/spielplan/index.php?searchMonat=2009-06&searchKomponist=&searchTyp=&searchText=Stichworte+eingeben ] but is also heavy on the Romantic to late Romantic period opera this year.

- Verona Opera Festival [ http://www.arena.it/en-US/festival-lirico/schedule.html ] from June 19-Aug 31.. operas from Romantic to late Romantic periods.

- Salzburg Festival [ http://www.salzburgerfestspiele.at/program2009/ ] goes from July 25 to the end of August, which is probably too late for you. At any rate, tickets to this festival (and Bayreuth Festival) are usually sold out a few years in advance anyway. But if you’re still around during the time you might be able to catch one of those outdoor big-screen broadcast they usually put up.

why you never see a high rated human(i don’t mean celebrities,actors,…) in rock or rap concerts?

why high rated people(i mean university professors,doctors,people like warren buffet,famous politicians ) never go to rock or rap concerts and they just go to classical music concerts?

The stereotype that "rich" or "sophisticated" or "high-rated" people listen to classical music is absolutely false.

The fact is that dirt poor people might listen to classical music and people as rich as Bill gates might listen to rock or rap.

That being said… A little digression…

Although I may have a solution to you as why highly important people like politicians might not go to those type of concerts. To quote a good friend of mine, "You have like a 97% chance of getting high from all the smoke in the air." Those type of concerts aren’t quite the nicest places to be. How would Obama look like to the public if he was rocking out in a lewd and highly, erm, evil concert?

Quite honestly, because of the stereotype, many important people are expected to go to classical concerts.

Look at a high class politician meeting or something. Tuxedos? Fancy dresses? Yep. Look at a rock or rap concert. Um… You get the idea. Now look at a classical concert, (given, concert etiquette has reduced over the years) tuxedos would fit in much better there.

Lastly, quite honestly and bluntly, I think rock, and especially rap, is trash and therefore I think many trashy people tend to listen to it.

Classical music lovers/musician friends?

I am 20 years old and I really find it hard to make friends with people who share the same interest (classical music) as me. Frankly, I am quite sick and tired of going to performance by myself. Are there some sort of classical music group or what? I feel guilty if I drag friends to a classical music concert when clearly they’re not interested it in attending.

Do you have an older relative who might enjoy getting dressed up & attending concerts with you? An aunt or grandparent? A neighbor?Often seniors feel left out by the world & it would be a wonderful treat & you’d get to know someone outside your age group who enjoys the music to share with.
You got your love of the classics somewhere, and it’s always a good thing to expand our social & cultural horizons. (Older people can be great fun, the life experiences often developes a keen sense of humor & outlook.)

would you ay that Classical music concerts today are longer than in Mozart’s time?

It’s the other way around. Concerts in Classical and early Romantic times could be musical marathons that went on for hours! Concerts have got SHORTER over the years, not longer. Probably due to people having gradually less recreational time as work eats more and more into people’s lives. Also, at one time, it was largely the aristocracy (with LOTS of leisure time) who attended concerts. Once ‘working’ people started to attend concerts, performances had to be shorter to accommodate lifestyles.

Is it weird to go to a classical music concert alone…….?

Would it be weird to be walking in alone with nobody not even a friend lmao?

I don’t know anybody who like listening to live music!!

It would be perceived by some of the general public to be so; but not necessarily by most classical music lovers.

The general public at least in this country, make light of those of us who are drawn to the "finer" things of life; it’s a burden, "cross" if you will, we must bear.

I’m very sensitive also to how I’m looked upon in public; and on such occasions as you speak of, would try to obtain a seat on the aisle; thereby having only one person seated next to me; and for me at least, made me to feel less uncomfortable.

If you’re not familiar with it, you might care to read this wonderfully wise poem; may help you to accept your self and life, the way it is, and to better endure situations that may elicit pangs of anxiety:

On second thought, I might should forewarn you that it’s the most profoundly sad piece of music ever written in my opinion; so after a minute or two should you find it depressing, might just better click it off, and forget it.

I am finding there are less young people who by classical c.d.’s, go to concerts and play instruments. Doesn’t anybody listen to classical music?

I hope that people continue to learn the discipline of music and develop their talents.

Music definitely does change over time, but I too worry that children are not being exposed to the world of music in a way that allows them to be creative producers of musical forms, instead of consumers of sound.
